The Selfirst Movement

It's not selfish.
It's Selfirst.

Selfirst is a movement that encourages people to take care of themselves in healthy, intentional ways. When you care for yourself, you show up stronger for your family, your work, your relationships, and your purpose.

A movement rooted in self-care, personal growth, and mental wellness.

What is Selfirst?

Selfirst means putting yourself first in a healthy, intentional way — not from selfishness, but from self-respect — so you can show up better for the people and things you love.

What is Selfirst?

Putting yourself first, without guilt.

Selfirst means honoring your own needs with intention and self-respect. It isn't about loving others less, it's about recognizing that your well being matters too.

Not selfish. Intentional.

Self-respect, not selfishness.

For too long, putting yourself last has been mistaken for virtue. Selfirst challenges that belief by reminding us that healthy boundaries and self-care create stronger relationships, not weaker ones.

The Ripple Effect

Better for Everyone.

When you take care of yourself, everyone around you benefits. You become more patient, more present, resilient, and more capable of giving your best to the people who matter most.

"When you fill your own cup first, you have so much more to give to the world."
— Amy Joy Gilliland, Founder of Selfirst & Creator of National Selfirst Day

For generations, many of us have been taught that putting ourselves last is the right thing to do. Healthy self-care isn't selfish. It creates stronger families, healthier relationships, and more resilient communities. Selfirst is an invitation to choose yourself first in healthy, intentional ways — through compassion, courage, and self-respect.

Amy Joy Gilliland, founder of the Selfirst movement

Why Amy created Selfirst.

Selfirst wasn't born from a business plan. It was born from a conversation. During a women's group, Amy listened to woman after woman apologized for taking time to care for herself. "I'm being so selfish right now." Amy finally stopped the conversation. "What if we stopped calling it selfish? What if we called it Selfirst instead?" The room immediately understood the differenece. That one word changed the conversation - from guilt to permission, from shame to self-respect.
